Salsa Dance Lesson + Salsa Social
Class 6-7 (freewill donation for United Ukraine), social 7-9 (free)
We’ll have a Latin dancing class from 6-7, targeted to beginners to learn the basics of merengue/bachata. That’s right – Gloria is not available this week, and this month’s instructor is not messing with her salsa teaching style! Instead, we’ll do some basics of lead and follow in merengue and an intro to bachata if time allows. After class, stick around for our monthly salsa/Latin dance social from 7-9!
In lieu of class fee, we will be taking a freewill donation for United Ukraine, which uses every cent it receives to directly support Ukrainian residents and refugees.
If you can’t come but want to donate to this cause:
Via Venmo: @UnitedUkraine (under the business tab)

And we accept checks via mail at:

Who’s the guy who’s not Gloria? Marcus Clark is a dancer who promotes shenanigans and fun. His rules of dance are: “Have fun, don’t hurt yourself, and don’t hurt anybody else.” He believes that social dancing should be fun and available to all with an emphasis on lead-and-follow instead of steps. A long, long time ago, in another life, he taught beginner ballroom at ISU and U of I clubs, as well as merengue lead/follow classes for youth leadership. He hasn’t done any of that in a while, so cut him some slack. 😀
About your instructor: Gloria Zmolek has been dancing salsa for over 20 years. It started when she made a New Years Resolution to start going out dancing and she learned about salsa classes that were being taught in Iowa City. She got hooked. She has attended Salsa Congresses in Chicago, New York and Puerto Rico. Wherever she goes she’s always looking for the salsa scene, which has included dancing in Tokyo, Istanbul, and Paris. She was instrumental in growing the salsa community in Cedar Rapids through teaching community lessons at CSPS for over 15 years.
